Questions

What is a Clinical Psychologist?

Clinical Psychologists offer assessment and treatment to help with people with mental health difficulties. We integrate science, theory, and clinical knowledge to understand, prevent, and relieve psychologically-based distress or behaviour. We work to promote subjective well-being and personal development.
What is the difference between a Psychiatrist, a Clinical Psychologist, and a Psychotherapist?
All three are specially trained to treat people with mental health difficulties. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. They provide diagnosis and mostly treat using pharmaceutical interventions. A Clinical Psychologist is also a doctor (clinically not medically trained). They use a range of psychological theories and frameworks to assess and treat mental health difficulties. A Psychotherapist is an umbrella term referring to anyone who has a specialist training in delivering a type of psychological therapy. It usually refers to a practitioner who has trained in one type of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Our psychologists are trained and have many years of expertise in delivering a wide range of different therapies, such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive analytic therapy. We will discuss with you therapy options and recommend which we believe will be best suited for your hopes and goals, and outline how the therapy works.
